Previous Game Recap

On Saturday, December 17th Penn Jersey Roller Derby held their winter rookie game, the Polar Derby, at the International Sports Complex in Mount Laurel, NJ. These two co-ed teams made up of recent graduates and alternates battled it out in an exciting exhibition of skill and speed that had the crowd cheering the entire time. Rookies were put through the paces, and by the end of the night they proved their merit.

The Jack Frostbiters and the Santa Slayers squared off, and the teams relied heavily on rookies PamDEMONium for the Frostbiters and Victorian Vendetta for the Slayers as jammers for the first half. PamDEMONium started the game off by scoring four points in the first jam and brought fans to their feet. By halftime the Frostbiters were up 25-15 but that did not mean the Slayers were to be had just yet. The Slayers made a few tweaks to their lineup and brought in points to close the gap fast. By the end of the third period Slayers were up by two. Despite a strong fight by the Frostbiters, the Slayers had found their groove, and stayed with it to win the game 44-41.

Indomitable Donna and PamDEMONium were voted MVPs by their opposing teammates, and Bunsen Bruiser was honored as the most improved rookie by his fellow rookie classmates. Congrats to both teams and all of the new rookies and welcome to the league!

PJRD's Skater of the Month - Beatrix R. Forkids

Beatrix R. ForkidsWhat's the significance of your derby name and number?

Beatrix R. Forkids is derived from a play on words from Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill and the popular saying, 'tricks are for kids'. My number 5678 is actually the name of the band that plays in Kill Bill preceding an awesome fight scene.

How did you get started playing roller derby?

I was too young in high school when a friend discovered it, and I rediscovered it after college when I saw "Whip It". I did a quick google search and decided that derby would be great to get in shape and meet new friends.
